Switch off System Restore as back up files may be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.

You are getting viruses because of this websites you're visiting! ALSO! Your virus program is ONLY as good as the most recent updates. Seeing as there's over 500 new viruses created everyday, and you MAYBE only update once a week, it is inevitable that you will get a virus.... Norton handles the viruses that DO come in the best. Quarantines them and then REMOVES PERMISSIONS to those quarantines so nothing can be executed. Some other virus programs (like AVG...) quarantine the file by moving it to an isolated folder on the hard drive... that's it.

Hi. Looks like a good machine. When you say crash that usually means BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death). Is that the case? If you are using a valid copy of Windows XP then crashes should be rare. If you have a hardware conflict (rare) that might do it. Check the Task Manager and see if you have any suspicious processes running.

i think i have the same laptop, maybe its the account ur using. when i used another account that i newly made, my laptop stopped crashing. it could be that ur only scanning one account instead of every account in ur laptop. if ur laptop is still under warranty, now would be the time to use that.

Virus has disabled System Restore?

A virus has disabled System Restore I think. I can't open up the Help Menu from the Start button to get to the System Restore Wizard. I've tried using Safe Mode but I'm not too familiar with it. I couldn't seem to do it from there either.

I've already run all the free anti-virus %26 anti-spyware stuff to no avail. It's also shut down my Task Manager, Windows Media Player, and I think it may be what's caused my internet to go down as well. So I'm really in a bind. I can't download anything from the internet.

Is there another way to get to System Restore or do you have any other suggestions? I'm going to end up reformatting but I need a solution in the meantime.

I've got some sort of virus that has stopped my windows media player from working and I can't get to my Task Manager. It have been messing up my explorer connection when I tried to log into Yahoo mail.

So I got a bunch of free anti virus/anti spyware programs and ran them. None of those did anything. Now, all of the sudden I can't get to the internet via my computer (although I can still use Xbox live so I know the juices are flowing through the cable so to speak). It says I have ''Limited or no connectivity'' or something like that. Right now I'm using my computer at work.

Could this be the virus or could it be a firewall blocking the internet connection entirely or what? Any advice?

I am not sure if it would help, but it sounds reasonable to me. It has fixed a lot of problems for me, but this takes a bit of time to do, and I don't know how long your computer runs without shutting down.

Sorry, but the stuff you are using and free stuff can't do a simple removal job...

This is not a problem at all. Here's what you need to do.

1st, don't waste your time with AVG, true sword, spybot, ad aware, CA, spyhunter, superantispyware, avast, panda, kaspersky, spyware blaster, bitdefender, spyware guard, windows defender or anything of the sort. Now that you have done that... rescan with AVG etc. and clean up any crap on there.

Restart your computer and go back and uncheck the box that turned off system restore.

The reason to do it that way is because your system will automatically restore certain items you are deleting with your anti-virus/spyware removers. If system restore is off during the scan and removal it can't =)

Somehow, that anoying spyware infected my computer. I don't know how to remove it. I tried manually, by add/remove programs, but it is still on my computer, althought not on my add/remove programms list. I am curious to know what the difference is between buying a anti virus/ spyware and using a free one? Are there any benefits to the ones you buy versus the ones you get free? If so what? my grand-daughter has always had bullgard full security pack on her computer. About 6 weeks ago a box as a icon appeared on her desktop with the words xset up,exe.We did a full scan and 2 threats appeared on the scan which bullgard could not deal with so we sent a log to them to sort out. After many attempts later we were no better off as these threats kept showing up on the full scan. Last night I uninstalled bullgard and installed avg free antivirus and with her own windows firewall windows defender and norton spyware scan which comes free with btyahoo we did another scan with avg which picked up the above mentioned + a copy avg got rid of the first one and on a second scan we believe we got rid of the second one but the box is still on the desktop. How can we be sure we have got rid of all this. Hope all this makes sense.

By now the trojan will be in System Restore, so you have to switch that off. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore then follow the wizard to switch it off.

You should then run Avast and Ewido in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode reboot and repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.

Let the programs run, then reboot and run your Ewido scan again to check if it worked.

Sluggish Startup.?

I've noticed my laptop is running a little sluggish at moments, and when I startup it could take almost 10 minutes for it to finally be ready for me to use. I have Norton Anti-Virus, AVG Anti-Spyware and a memory free up program. My computer has no bugs or viruses(at least from what Norton can see), and I just cleaned up my hard drive and defragmented it. Are there any programs out there that could give my computer the jolt it needs? I have the resources to take it to a shop but I'd like to try my hand at it first, if possible.

Norton and avg are both good antivirus, only thing is, norton slows your system down quie a bit compared to AVG.

as far as spyware detection programs go, the more the merrier, only have one of the programs running full time as too many running will take up too much system resources.

fire up the other antispyware programs one a month, do your scans with them and put them back to bed when finnished.
It seems that you have 2 anti-VIrus and 2 anti-Spyware programs.

Remove one of the Anti-Virus, Norton's is better than AVG but it is your call. Having 2 anti-virus programs running at the same time will cause them to interfere with each other.

Having 2 anti-spyware at the same time is alright I'd just make one active and have the other scan only on manual. Of the 2 you mention Spybot is the better.

Ok so I have been looking for a site that offers wallpapers that will show clearly on Vista (1280x800). I have tried to utilize Google and Yahoo image search for photo that strike my interest. But when I apply them as my background they come out looking smudged and transposed.

The only thing that matters here is your resolution. 1280x800 is wide screen and most wallpapers are for 4x3 screens. So you either need to search for wide screen wallpapers or crop the walls you find to conform to a 16x10 ratio.

Mine does the same. Also 2 days ago, I kepygetting booted, over and over, and I wasn't even using the messenger stuff. Only had the window open. Half the time the system tried to log me on with my old password, and sometimes it uses the new one. They won't help fix that either. I think the reason is simply because we COST them money. If we were advertisers they'd figure it out quickly. Funny, but they haven't figured out yet that if they lose enuff consumers, eventually they'll lose advertisers too. Yahell thinks it invincible....

Hi,

Please help me with my problem,

I have 3 different pop ups that won't go away. I have AVG 7.5 free edition, anti virus,anti-spyware and anti root kit and even tried different kinds of anti-spyware on my computer. the pop ups wont stop.

It says i have been infected with trojandownloader.xs and i should click the link to fix the problem but the link takes me to a site.

Second says ''system integrity scan wizard'' and says my computer may have critical errors in windows registry and file system.

The third doesnt pop up to often but says something like i have been infected with adebot and an exclamation mark keeps appearing in the bottom right corner by the internet connection and says my computer is infected with spyware and it takes me to the same site.

I tried to use the Ccleaner but it doesnt seem to solve my problem..the pop ups keeps on appearing.

I believe it is an adware but i have no idea how to fix it.

Please help me im in a long distance relationship now, and i really want to make it work..chatting is our only way of communication..

I really like Trend Micro products. They seem to be very thorough....blocking spyware, malware, viruses, spam, etc. The free ones generally use the panda software engine. They usually get the big stuff, but are much slower to react to new viruses.

Step 1: Make sure that you have an up to date antivirus program. If you don't, install AVG. You should only have one antivirus program. (If you need to uninstall your antivirus, use RevoUninstaller)

Step 2: Visit the Google Pack website, and use it to download Spyware Doctor.

Step 3: Download and install ThreatFire.

Step 4: Make sure to use Mozilla's Firefox from here on out. Also, install the Adblock Plus and NoScript add-ons for it.

Step 5: Make sure that you have a firewall program on your computer. If you don't, install Comodo.

Step 6: Turn off System Restore, and restart in safe mode

Step 7: Run scans will the programs above.

Did you know you there are problems in cancelling subscriptions for products sold by PC Tools?

I had a one-year subscription for this company's Spyware Doctor. I decided not to pay for a second year's subscription because it took up too much space on my computer. I told PC Tools about the subscription cancellation - but they STILL tried to extract money from my bank. I won that battle, but recently opted for a free trial of the updated Spyware Doctor. I was horrified to receive an email from PC Tools saying they would take a subscription out of my bank - even though I don't want it. I am trying to stop them. Has anyone else had similar problems? Because of the payment method PC Tools use (Continuous Payment Authority) my bank cannot cancel the payment. Only PC Tools can do that.

I have had problems of the same with others before. It's easy.

You just put a ''Stop payment'' - Ask your bank - for say, 3-4 months on anything that comes in with THEIR name. That's enough time for them to give up, and It costs less than paying the NSF fee everytime they try to extract money from your account!

Sorry to hear about a 'reputable' company giving you a hard time like that! Just do what I suggested..

I just set up a myspace account this morning, and I had read a post here from a user who wanted a website that had free myspace layouts without any spyware on them. I thought that the HTML codes for the myspace pages couldnt possibly have spyware in them, so I just googled myspace layouts and looked at radprofile.com. I got the layout from mywackospace.com. How did this website get my cell phone number??? And how can I block them from texting me again?? I'm scared that I'll get into trouble if the phone bill shows that the call was from someone from a sex site, and I dont want them to text me anymore. btw i am 18, not a little kid whos not old enough.

It's not because of myspace, because I've had an account w/ them for years and have never gotten spam because of it. Some stupid spammer has a system that randomly generates text messages and sends them to every possible 10-digit number, hoping they're real phone numbers, and it sends them through email so it doesn't cost them money. Now all they're waiting on is for you to reply so they know it's a real number, so don't reply to it!! If you do, it will most likely never stop. If they keep sending the, call your cell phone service provider and have the number blocked.

Go to the page you want to make your home page and at the top of the internet explorer choose Tools, internet options and in the first tab (general) press the use current button and then save.

That is the easiest way to make something your home page

Downloading shouldn't be changing your home page unless when you execute it, you tell it to use it as your homepage.

If you didn't, run a spyware detector program and an anti virus one to make sure your pc is clean, you may have picked up a virus.

PROBABLY TRUE..Download yahoo phishing filter it is free and it does work well...There are many good Free spyware and adware programs out there, and sometimes they will tell you that you have a virus or spyware just for you to buy their product (so be aware) Nortons is a good antivirus program, and now yahoo has the tool bar with nortons antispyware added to it or you can download it, the tool bar will let you know that there is a up-grade for your antispyware tool bar, I have it and so far it is ok, I don't really like it, but it does work (it replace the old spyware that they had on the toolbar)
